Safe Pedestrian Navigation App

My dissertation involved creating an Android app safer walking routes compared to leading mapping apps like Google Maps and Apple Maps. The Android app client connects to a Python server, which uses Open Street Map data, to generate these routes. The app is available for download on the Google Play Store.

My dissertation, titled "Development of a Pedestrian Navigation App with a Focus on Safer Routes" was submitted in June 2025 as part of my Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering at Bournemouth University and can be found here.

The dissertation covers the research, design, and implementation of the pedestrian navigation app, along with an explanation of the algorithm.

Tests comparing this apps algorithm with Google's, Apple's, and OsmAnd's pedestrian routing algorithms can be found under Appendix K of the dissertation.
