Last updated: 2025-05-10
SafePedNav (the "App") (package name com.joeblakeb.safepedestriannavigation) is a pedestrian navigation app developed as part of a university dissertation project at Bournemouth University. This privacy policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.
Data Collection
The App uses your device's location to provide accurate navigation and search functionality. Your location data is handled in the following ways:
- Search Requests

When you perform a search within the App:
- Your search query and current location are sent to a server to fetch relevant results.
 - The server uses Google’s Places API to get search suggestions.
 - The query and approximate location may be cached on the server for up to three days to improve performance and user experience.
 - No personally identifiable information is collected or stored.

- Navigation Requests

When you request a navigation route:
- Your start and end locations are sent to the server to compute a route.
 - No navigation data is stored or cached on the server.
 - This process does not involve any third-party services.

Analytics
This app does not use any analytics tools. No usage data, events, or activity logs are collected or shared.
Third-Party Services
The App uses the Google Places API solely for returning search suggestions based on your queries and location. This service is used under Google's terms and does not involve any persistent storage of your personal data by the App.
Data Retention
- Cached search data (location + query) is anonymised and retained for a maximum of three days.
 - Navigation data is not stored at any point.
